Maldives former president Naseed arrested


Democratically elected first President of the Maldives Mohammed Nasheed was detained today after a week of not appearing before the Courts in connection with the case on him for misuse of power. This case is related to arrest of a senior judge in last January by sending army by Nasheed. Due to massive protest against this action Nasheed had to resign in last February.

Police spokesman confirmed his arrest. The 45-year old Mohammed Nasheed was arrested from former Housing Minister Hanif Hassan home. Nasheed raised questions on the validity of the court order, after which the Court ordered his arrest. In the last days of his term he is charged of misuse of his powers and arrest of chief criminal judge Abdullah Muhammad's. Last week he denied of appearing before the court during hearing of the case. I he is found guilty he may be jailed for three years or deportation can be sent in and can be fined. Also can be banned for contesting the upcoming presidential elections.

The former President, wrote on Twitter, "acting magistrate court on the validity of the question, I petitioned the High Court in this case. I am awaiting the judgement." in 2008 the first democratically elected Government took over the command of nashid said that against fair trial. Nasheed in addition to former defence Minister tholhath Abraham califano, Former security force Chief Major General Moosa Ali Jaleel, Brigadier General Ibrahim Muhammad Didi and Colonel Muhammad jiyad also judge unconstitutional arrest.
